YOU DID WHAT??

How it Happened.
In March 2020, Tyrrell started watching some families on YouTube who RV full time. Not sure he was too interested in that lifestyle then, but I think maybe it was the light, fun, positive content in a time of unknowns. That turned into us watching it together, and then discussing the hypotheticals of RV travel, and then (as he would tell it), him soft-selling me on the idea.
When Tyrrell’s job became permanently remote when his local office closed, and with all the many benefits of living in an urban centre being cancelled, altered, or altogether taken away, we realized maybe this was our chance.
Travel in a pandemic…why not?!
Under the confirmation that it will be he who deals with the black tank and stinky slinky, we got to planning, dreaming, philosophizing, completing renos, selling the house, selling many of our things, and the list goes on.
It was challenging, and there were many tears (almost all mine) at the task ahead, the unknown, and leaving our comfortable life in Montreal. I remember reading a section in Living the RV Life, by Marc and Julie Bennet (@rvlove) about not underestimating the emotional transitition of downsizing, selling your home and some of your belongings, leaving friends and family, leaving familiarity. It all sounds so fun to be heading off on an adventure, but it is also sad, hard and quite frankly, scary. For anyone reading this who know me, you know that I am the worrier. So this has been a real step for all of us, but for me especially. But, you know what? We did it! And it’s funny, because now looking back it doesn’t seem that bad.
Our Plan (so far).
What started off as a trip across Canada has quickly grown into a North America thing. When Tyrrell initially mapped it out for us, our tentative route included a sizeable amount of the US and I was like “aren’t we doing this to travel across Canada?” Anyhoo, communication in a marriage….Always important. 🙄😂 And in Tyrrell’s defence, Canada, though a wonderful place to be, is not ideal for year round camping!
To date (and depending on when you read this), we have booked up to the New Year, and after that it is currently open! The debate now, is it better to stay somewhere for longer (multiple weeks), but then have a really really long drive day to the next place? Or is it better to move weekly but shorter distances? Should we stick to hot places, or at least warm? Or head off to interesting places that might be a bit cooler? Certainly warmer weather is less fatiguing in a non-winterized RV and longer stays mean more time for Tyrrell to actually sightsee and explore, as we works full time during the week.
When spring comes, we hope to find ourselves back in Canada, BC (where exactly will depend on the recovery efforts though) and making our way back through Canada during the warmer months.
How to find us.
